DEFIBRILLATION


 

DESCRIPTION
 

Automated External Defibrillation (AED) training is delivered to be consistent with unit manufacturer and current Australian Resuscitation Council guidelines.

Training is provided for the participant to develop the skills and knowledge to apply and operate an AED until the arrival of Emergency Medical Services.

 

Course content

Subjects covered in the course includes:

  • Pre-operational unit checking

  • Basic life support including:

    • Recognition and first aid management of an unconscious/collapsed casualty

    • Incorporation of the AED unit into DRABCD

    • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)

    • Practical training on CPR manikins incorporating AED use

  • Calling for emergency services assistance

  • Practical and theoretical assessment

  • AED post use checking and maintenance

 
Prerequisites

There is a requirement to have a current Level 2 Workplace First Aid Certificate.

 

Course duration

Minimum of 3 hours.

 

Assessment method

Demonstration of practical skills and a written quiz

 

Course award

On successful completion of this course participants will be issued with a Statement of Attainment for the nationally recognised unit of competency.



LECTURER

Lecturing is conducted by Anthony Hann who is a full-time Mobile Intensive Care Officer with Ambulance Victoria.

Cost of the course is $110 (+ GST) per person.
