DESCRIPTION
|
This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to recognise and respond to life threatening emergencies using basic life support measures only. The skills and knowledge described here enable a first aider to provide an initial response to an emergency in line with practised actions and Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) Guidelines and/or state/territory regulations, legislation and policies and accepted industry guidelines. Skills and knowledge would be adapted as required to reflect workplace and community requirements relating to specific risks, hazards and associated injuries. This course is Nationally Accredited. |
Course content
Subjects covered in the course includes:
- Chain of survival
- Assessing the situation
- Signs of life
- Performing CPR
- Care of the unconscious person
- Shock
- Bleeding and wound care
- Infection control
- Reporting procedures
Prerequisites
Participants must be at least 14 years of age.
Course duration
Minimum of 8 hours.
Assessment method
Demonstration of practical skills and a written quiz
Course award
On successful completion of this course participants will be issued with a Statement of Attainment for the nationally recognised unit of competency. Current industry standard is for this course to be updated every 312 months.
LECTURER
Lecturing is conducted
by Anthony Hann who is a full-time Mobile Intensive Care Officer with
Ambulance Victoria.
