Pre-hospital Spinal Management Course

 

Emergency Technologies ‘Prehospital Spinal Management Course’ was established 12 years ago for training Student Ambulance Officers of the Victorian Ambulance Service.


PROGRAM

The Course is conducted over 9 hours and covers the following theoretical and practical topics:    
          a.    Introduction
          b.    Australian spinal statistics
          c.    Anatomy of the spine
          d.    Assessing the spinal patient
          e.    Spinal clearance in the field
          f.     Manual head stabilisation
          g.    Motorbike helmet removal
          h.    Cervical collar application
          i.     Long spine board application
          j.     Scoop stretcher application
          k.    Vacuum mattress application


LECTURER

Lecturing is conducted by Anthony Hann who is a full-time Mobile Intensive Care Officer with the Victorian Ambulance Service.   For the last 20 years, Anthony has been involved in the research and development of new spinal standards  and training programs, now adopted by the Victorian Ambulance Service.  He has lectured for over 10 years at Monash and Victoria University teaching Spinal  Management & Vehicle Extraction Techniques to Victoria’s new Student Ambulance Officers.


COST

Cost of the 1 day course is $1500 (+ GST), allowing the organisation to place up to 15 persons on the course.
